Get Fit For Forest Holme

Kick off 2021 with a fundraising challenge that will improve your physical and mental health whilst raising money to support your local NHS hospice.

What’s the challenge – Run, walk, skip, hop, cycle, swim, roll or flip – get physical & get those endorphins pumping. You set the challenge; a goal according to your fitness level at a time that suits you. You could challenge yourself to run 5K each week for a month, walk the distance of a marathon (26.2 miles) in a week, set your own cycling challenge inspired by the Tour de France; the Tour de Poole! Or show off your moves and have a 2 hour, 12 hour or 24 hour danceathon. 

Your Fundraising – You set your own challenge and your own fundraising target. So just sign up and raise what you can. Everyone who takes part will receive a very special Get Fit For Forest Holme medal. 

As an extra little incentive if you raise over £500 we will send you a very very special Forest Holme hoodie.

We will be notified when your page is set up and will be in touch and on hand to support you with your challenge and help you raise as much as possible for Forest Holme Hospice.

You can track the miles for your challenge by linking Strava with your JustGiving account. It’s easy to do and we have put together a ‘how to’ to help you along the way.

Why we need your support: Forest Holme Hospice Charity is expecting a funding deficit of £350,000 due to the impact of Coronavirus. We know a lot of people have struggled mentally & physically since the start of the pandemic, so we want to get our local community active to improve everyone’s physical and mental health and help the charity alongside that.

Event Name: Ultra Challenge Series 2021

Are you a keen walker or runner looking for a challenge? If so, these events are for you! With 3 different distance options (25km, 50km or 100km) You can choose to walk, jog or run at one of the 12 events around the country. Whether that’s along a stunning coastline, or on trails in the best of Britain’s countryside. This series has something for everyone.

The series includes the Jurassic Coast Challenge. Setting off from Poole Harbour the route passes Corfe Castle, across to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, with ups & downs to the Weymouth half way stop.

Event Name: Skydive for Forest Holme

Sign up to take part in a Skydive to support Forest Holme and experience the ultimate adrenaline rush as you free-fall at over 150mph.

Skydives are available throughout the year and can be arranged for a date that suits you. To sign up there is an entry fee of £50 to secure your place and we are asking everyone who takes part to pledge to raise a minimum of £350 in sponsorship to support Forest Holme.

Please note: You must be aged 16 or over to tandem skydive but participants aged 16 – 17 will require consent from a parent or guardian. The maximum weight for a tandem skydive is 16 stone.

On the day of your jump, please be prepared to spend the full day at the parachute centre. Parachuting is a weather dependent sport. If you are unable to jump on the date of your course, alternative dates will be made available.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it is not going to be possible to host our Tie a Yellow Ribbon event in the usual way at the hospice this year, so instead, we are asking our wonderful supporters to create yellow ribbon inspired works of art and we will be choosing a selection to create the first ever Forest Holme Arts Trail. We hope the Arts Trail will bring friends and families together for a safe walk to appreciate what has been created in support of your local hospice.

We aren’t looking for professional works of art, anyone can get involved, no matter your skill level or age. Send a photo of your completed works to fundraising@forestholmehospice.org.uk by 16th May 2021 and a selection will be chosen for this very special Forest Holme project

Event Name: Wing Walk for Forest Holme

Do something amazing for Forest Holme Hospice and take part in our next charity Wing Walk day.

Flying with some of the most experienced pilots in the country at speeds of up to 130mph on a Boeing Stearman, the adrenaline fuelled flight is organised by the Wing Walk Company, who are regarded as the modern day equivalent of the Barnstorming Pioneers, who would have travelled the country in the 20’s and 30’s as part of a flying circus.

To sign up there is an entry fee of £50 to secure your place and we are asking everyone who takes part to pledge to raise a minimum of £800 in sponsorship to support Forest Holme Hospice.

Please note: You must be between 18 – 75 years of age and weigh no more than 85kgs (13st 4lb) to take part in this event.

Event Name: London Summer Walk 2021
Date: 5th June 2021
Location: Oval Cricket Ground, London

In place of the London Winter Walk, Action Challenge is launching a new London Summer Walk, taking place on the 5th June.

This is the earliest date it can be scheduled for within the roadmap and in agreement with venues. The format will be very similar to the Winter Walk, with half marathon & full marathon options, using the Oval Cricket Ground as a “base”.

We will share more information about this challenge once we have final confirmations.

Both walks – Full Marathon or Half Marathon – start and finish at The Oval Cricket Ground in London (near Vauxhall) and the routes take in highlights of the Thames and its historic bridges, and many of the Capital’s major landmarks.

  • Start / Finish: Oval Cricket Ground
  • Good train & tube links.
  • Start time slots: 10am – 1pm on Sat
  • Halfway Rest Stop with snacks, drinks, toilets, medics
  • FREE summer hat & neck buff available
  • Special Summer Walk Medal & certificate
  • Hot food & drink ‘to go’ at finish

This event is strictly walking only – so no jogging or running is allowed.

– You will be given one trolley but can collect another if you need it.
– Only one item of each product is allowed.

Event Name: Virtual London Marathon 2021

Sign up for a charity place in the Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon 2021 with Forest Holme Hospice Charity.

The virtual London Marathon takes place on the same date as the in-person event, Sunday 3 October, and runners will be marked as completing the race as long as they run 26.2 miles between 00:00:00 and 23:59:59 that day, using the official London Marathon app to log their run. Although this is a virtual event, you will still receive an official race number in the post from the London Marathon team, as well as your finishers t-shirt and coveted medal on completion.

 In 2019, our amazing Run Bournemouth team raised over £10,000 to help support patients and their families at Forest Holme. We are now looking for our next team of Forest Holme runners. So if you’re looking for a reason to become a future Run Bournemouth team member, then look no further!
