On Saturday August 26, Karen Hesketh will be taking part in the Gung-Ho! obstacle race at Upton Country Park in memory of her husband, Roger.
A 5k run like no other, the Gung-Ho! course includes 10 giant inflatable obstacles and will see participants run, jump and bounce their way around the course.
Karen said; “I was 60 last year and promised Roger that I would do something a little daring as a fundraiser for Forest Holme and to show that being 60 was definitely ‘not past it’.
The Gung-Ho challenge is ideal as it promises to be fun which would have appealed to Roger’s sense of humour, living life to the full, never taking anything too seriously and always enjoying a little bit of silliness too.”
Karen will be raising funds for Forest Holme Hospice Charity to say thank you for the care they provided to her husband and family.
“Throughout the final months of Roger’s life he referred to Forest Holme as his second home. We were both looked after and supported so well during his stays and whenever we needed help and advice at home – there was someone only a phone call away.
We had regular home visits from our palliative care nurse, which we found comforting and strengthening. Towards the end we were thoroughly supported to enable Roger to die at home surrounded by those he loved and in the surroundings in which he felt most comfortable. Furthermore, the door was always, and still is open, for me to talk with a bereavement counsellor.”
Forest Holme Hospice Charity enhances the lives of adults living with advanced cancer and other life limiting illnesses across Poole, Wimborne and the Isle of Purbeck.
Hannah Parsons, Fundraising Manager at Forest Holme Hospice Charity added; “We are reliant on charitable donations to ensure that we can continue to be there for local people when they need us most.”
The charity has joined up with the team over at Gung Ho! so that you can have a day to remember whilst raising money for your local hospice.
