VISITOR INFORMATION UPDATE

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ

Currently due to the COVID-19 pandemic we have to restrict visiting on the ward in order to prevent the spread of the virus. We are working in line with trust and government guidance and appreciate that this is a difficult time for relatives and loved ones. We appreciate your support and understanding at this time.

At present we are able to facilitate one lead visitor for each patient; they can be here every day for one visit, which can be any length of time. We ask that this visitor remains by the bed space, unless leaving to use the visitor toilet. If your relative is in a side room we would ask you use the en-suite facilities available. Staff are able to provide you with refreshments, please just ask if you require anything please feel free to bring in food and drink to make your time on the unit comfortable.

We can also currently facilitate an additional second visitor, one per day for an hour visiting. They can be here the same time as the lead visitor or on their own. This extra visitor can be a different visitor each day. We would ask that this is arranged via the lead visitor who would then make contact with the ward on 0300 319 8147 to advise who was coming in. If you need assistance with managing the second visitors please let us know. We are very sorry at this time we are unable to support any children visiting the hospice.

If your relative deteriorates during their stay at Forest Holme or has come in for end of life care then we can facilitate two visitors at a time for as long as they wish to stay. We may be able to make provisions for other visitors to come in for a one off visit but this would need to be discussed with the nurse in charge each shift.

All visitors for every patient, will be required to sign in and have a temperature taken prior to seeing the patient. Any person with a temperature over 37.8 will be advised to go and seek further advice and access a COVID swab, which must be negative before they are able to visit. Visitors must not have any COVID-19 symptoms themselves nor must anyone in their household. These visiting restrictions include anyone in the household requiring to self-isolate based on government guidance, including travel.

All visitors must wear a suitable face covering when visiting (this does not include a visor), if you don’t have your own we are able to provide one for you. Your face covering must stay in place throughout your time visiting at Forest Holme. Face coverings are not a replacement for social distancing and regular hand washing which remain the most important actions for protection against Covid-19.

Thank you for your part in assisting us to keep patients, visitors and staff as safe as possible at this time.

Visitors are welcome at any time, although many people enjoy a sleep after lunch and we suggest that early afternoon from 1pm to 3pm is kept as a quiet time. Being visited can be tiring and it is often better to limit the number of visitors at any one time and to encourage them not to stay too long. Children of any age are welcome and well-behaved pets may also visit. We have a large lounge, relatives’ kitchen, relatives’ overnight room and small courtyard garden which you are very welcome to use.

Forest Holme has its own small car park, but parking is limited. We would ask you to encourage friends to park in one of the nearby pay-and-display car parks at the hospital, Dolphin Shopping Centre or at the swimming pool, so that close family members can park on site. There is some free parking on nearby streets for up to two hours.

The hospice is well served by public transport. The rail station and the bus station are within walking distance for the reasonably fit: allow about five minutes to walk up Seldown Lane if you are coming by bus and an extra ten minutes if you are travelling by train.

The front door of Forest Holme is usually kept locked for security reasons so when you arrive please ring the doorbell and someone will let you in.

It is now national policy that there is no smoking on NHS premises and Forest Holme is fitted with smoke alarms. We therefore request that you do not smoke within Forest Holme or its grounds.
