Sustainability

Forest Holme Green Group

At Forest Holme, we believe caring for people also means caring for our planet.

Our Green Group brings together staff from all teams who are passionate about making our hospice more environmentally sustainable – in both clinical and non-clinical ways.

Silver Greener Palliative Care Award

We’re incredibly proud to have recently been awarded the Greener Palliative Care Silver Award, reflecting our hard work and collective efforts!

Local Business Eco Award

We were thrilled to win the Eco Award at Poole Business Awards, recognising our collective efforts here at Forest Holme Hospice.

For example, our clinical teams have reduced unnecessary glove use through staff education, cutting waste without compromising safety. Our hospice building has mostly automatic lighting in order to reduce energy use. Our charity team now order running vests made from 100% recycled materials. And one of our consultants is carrying out research into the number of blood tests done in the final weeks of life across Dorset, looking at how we can reduce unnecessary interventions for the benefit of patient wellbeing, as well as waste.

What we love most is that this isn’t driven by one department. It’s a shared effort!

Great Big Green Week

Our hospice team took part in a different environmental challenge each day of Great Big Green Week:

  • Monday – meat-free meals
  • Tuesday – walk, bike or car share to work
  • Wednesday – lunchtime litter pick
  • Thursday – think before you print
  • Friday – bring a reusable cup for coffee run

Charity Recycling

The team at Forest Holme Hospice Charity encourage donations of used stamps, ink cartridges and old mobile phones. These can be boxed up and recycled, keeping things eco-friendly as well as raising money for local hospice care!

Get involved

We know that meaningful change comes from lots of small, practical actions, and we welcome ideas from across the hospice and from our supporters too.

Together, we’re working towards a greener, more sustainable future for Forest Holme Hospice.
