Saturday 14th March – Saturday 16th May
Forest Holme Hospice has teamed up with Lighthouse in Poole to hold an exhibition of selected images by internationally renowned photographer Rankin from his 2013 exhibition Alive: in the Face of Death.
In the original exhibition, held at The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, Rankin, best known for his glamorous portraits of celebrities and fashion icons, set out to explore and challenge our perceptions of death and ignite dialogue.
Through his lens, the stories of those touched by death were revealed and included people living with a terminal illness and those who have faced death and survived, alongside a plethora of people who work with individuals at the end of life, including Poole-based Palliative Care Specialist, Dr Simon Pennell.
The Lighthouse exhibition focuses on three themes – professional mourners, celebrity death masks and homage to the Day of the Dead in Mexico – which are powerfully and expressively explored through Rankin’s striking images.
A beautiful hardback book that accompanied the original exhibition and features more than 70 images and inspirational accounts of the people involved in the project will be available to refer to.
