Education and Training
Forest Holme Hospice, as part of University Hospitals Dorset, is one of the lead providers for palliative care education and training in the locality and offers a range of training courses throughout the year. The main aim of our education programme is to support the development of a multi-disciplinary team which is able to deliver high quality palliative care to all those who need it irrespective of diagnosis or place of care. We may also be able to provide bespoke training, depending on your needs.

Courses & Events
Courses hosted by the Macmillan Unit (MMU) will be held at the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth. Courses hosted by Forest Holme (FH) will be held in the Coldwell Room at Forest Holme.
All bookings must be made using our booking form and full payment must be received in advance of the course.

Advance Care Planning Workshop
Date: 18th September 2026
Venue: Coldwell Room, Forest Holme Hospice, 5 Seldown Road, Poole BH15 1TS
Time: 08.45 – 16.30
This interactive workshop aims to provide core knowledge for Registered Nurses working within a community role or Nursing Home setting. It aims to explore the issues and challenges relating to the practical application of person-centred palliative care towards the end of life.
Contents include:
- What is meant by advance care planning (ACP)
- Aims and principles of ACP – including documentation and legal aspects
- Roles and responsibilities
Learning Outcome
By the end of the workshop you will:
- Be able to describe what is meant by advance care planning
- Be able to examine your own role and responsibilities around advance care planning
- Have increased confidence to facilitate conversations around ACP with patients and families.

This course will be hosted by and held in the Coldwell Room, Forest Holme Hospice, 5 Seldown Road, Poole BH15 1TS
Cost: £70 per person including refreshments.

For cancellations within 2 weeks of the course or failure to attend, payment will not be reimbursed. If 3 weeks before the course there are less than 75% of the places booked the course will be cancelled and fees will be refunded.
Allow a Natural Death / Do Not Resuscitate Workshop
Date: 7th October 2026
Venue: AFC Bournemouth Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth
Time: 08.45
This interactive workshop aims to raise awareness and develop the knowledge, skills and attitude of GPs & experienced registered nurses who are likely to be facilitating regular conversations regarding resuscitation. This workshop aims to enable you to complete the relevant documentation competently. Applicants for this course should have a minimum of five years experience.
Contents include:
- What is meant by Allow A Natural Death (AAND)
- Aims and principles of AAND – including the legal aspects (Mental Capacity Act) and documentation
- Roles and responsibilities
- Effective and sensitive communication skills
Learning Outcome
By the end of the workshop you will:
- Facilitate conversations with patients and their families around the decision of completing an Allow a Natural Death form and be confident in completing the form.
- Describe the legal and ethical aspects of decision making to inform discussions.
- Be able to provide patients and families clear rationale for decisions made and be able to identify and overcome barriers within conversations.

Maximum of 25 delegates.
