Walking into the sunset

Monday 20th Apr 2026

Over 450 participants took part in Forest Holme Hospice Charity’s inaugural Sunset Walk, coming together for a special evening in memory of loved ones.

Starting at Branksome Dene Community Room, people of all ages gathered to walk in support of Forest Holme Hospice to the top of Evening Hill to watch the sun set over Sandbanks and Poole Harbour.

The event was sponsored by Marjorie House, part of Care South, whose support helped make the evening possible, with staff and residents from Marjorie House also taking part in the walk.

Claire Cooper, Events and Challenges Manager at Forest Holme Hospice Charity, said, “It was incredibly special to see so many people come together for our very first Sunset Walk. The atmosphere was both emotional and uplifting, with people taking time to reflect, connect, share stories and support one another along the way. For many, it was a deeply personal experience, as well as a way to support the hospice.”

Rapid Relief kindly donated bottles of water to keep everyone hydrated en route, before participants returned to the Branksome Dene Community Room to enjoy refreshments from Pizza with Love.

The event has so far raised over £16,000 supporting Forest Holme Hospice in continuing to provide compassionate palliative and end of life care to people and families across the local area.

Claire, added, “We are so grateful to everyone who took part, our wonderful volunteers, staff and residents at Marjorie House for their support, plus Rapid Relief, and Pizza With Love, all of whom played a part in making the evening such a success. We look forward to doing it again next year.”
